Canadian Grad Student and Postdoc Salary Monitoring Post Budget 2024
In 2024, the Federal Budget of Canada provided new investments in Canadian Research funding to increase pay for graduate students and postdocs. $1.8 Billion was allocated to increase the budgets of TriAgency Grants (CIHR, NSERC, SSHRC) over the next 5 years: 3% increase in the first and second years, 5% increase in year 3, and 8% increases in years 4 and 5. The majority of Canadian students and postdocs are paid from these core research grants. The Canadian Association of Postdoctoral Scholars (CAPS) has designed a short survey to monitor whether student and postdoc pay increase following the increases to research grant budgets starting September 1st, 2024.
The results will be published on the CAPS/ACPP website, and data will be made available to CAPS/ACPP affiliates upon request.
